We are an independent research centre striving to be the nexus for scholarly advancements, policy developments and strategic initiatives in the realms of maritime law and air law that resonate globally, with Indonesia as our home base
The word “Lakara” from our creed is an antiquated Indonesian term, meaning “tiny boat”. This metaphor aptly describes our Centre’s aspirations, despite its modest size, to navigate through the vast expanse of knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of maritime law and air law.
"The sea and sky are pathways of civilization, and law is the compass that maintains their balance."
Our Compass
Just like how the explorers are guided by a compass in their voyages, our research framework is likewise guided by a conceptual compass, aligning our endeavours with the principles of international law. The four cardinal directions of our compass correspond to: The United Nations Charter, emphasising non-intervention and international cooperation, which lies on our South; The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and other related treaties on our West; The 1944 Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation on our East; while our True North heads towards the academic excellence and the advancement of maritime law and air law, along with other relevant legal sciences, fueling our research and contributions thereof. This conceptual framework ensures our Centre remains oriented towards the pursuit of knowledge, the development of international law, and the betterment of the global community.
